AMANDA MATTISON

PHYSICAL THERAPIST

An Atlanta native at heart, Amanda brings both deep clinical expertise and genuine curiosity to the Functionize team. Raised in Decatur and a graduate of Lakeside High School, Amanda’s academic path reflected her drive early on—becoming the first student in DeKalb County in more than 20 years to complete her senior year through full-time joint enrollment at Georgia State University. She graduated high school with sophomore college standing, setting the tone for a career built on dedication and initiative.

Amanda went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science with honors from Georgia State University in 2009. Drawn to science, human movement, and helping people stay active, she naturally found her calling in physical therapy—where problem-solving, empathy, and movement intersect.

In 2011, Amanda relocated to Miami to attend the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine Physical Therapy Program. During her training, she had the rare opportunity to assist in the rehabilitation of pilot whales that had beached themselves in the Florida Keys—an experience that uniquely combined her lifelong interest in marine biology with her passion for rehabilitation and remains a standout moment in her education.

After earning her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 2014, Amanda began her career at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. While her early work focused on neurological rehabilitation, the evolving needs of her patients guided her toward orthopedic care. Her commitment to excellence led her to become a Board-Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) in 2018.

Later that year, Amanda moved to Charlotte, North Carolina to be closer to family. Over the next five and a half years, she treated patients ranging in age from 7 to 91, guiding them through both non-operative and post-operative orthopedic recovery—including joint reconstruction and replacement surgeries. Along the way, she developed a special interest in spinal conditions as well as shoulder and hip dysfunction. Amanda treats a wide range of orthopedic concerns, including neck and back pain, post-surgical recovery, and complex musculoskeletal injuries. Her advanced training in manual joint mobilization techniques helps reduce pain, restore mobility, and allow patients to move with greater comfort and confidence.

In 2023, Amanda returned home to Atlanta to spend more time with her growing family and lifelong friends. Outside the clinic, she enjoys staying active, exploring the city she loves, and planning her next adventure.

Amanda is passionate about delivering personalized, evidence-based care and is excited to serve the Dunwoody community—helping each patient regain confidence in their movement and return to the activities that matter most.
